How can I clean a cast iron skillet?
I just received the skillet from my mother and I used it to fry some chicken. Now I am unsure how to clean the skillet properly from the left over grease and miscellaneous droppings.
Ok this is going to sound stupid but if you can't use water on the pan...How do I remove the soap?
If the skillet is in good condition you really don't need to do much. Water is it's enemy. After a quick clean with detergent and a chore girl. Then return to the stove or oven to heat it till it's dry. Allow it to cool then coat with olive oil and return again to the heat. I store my skillets and pans in a well ventilated area. The trick with them is you want layers and layers of ingested seasoning. When they start to carbonize or rust you need to take extra care. Oven cleaner on them in a black plastic bag in the sun removes the carbonizing. You then have to re season with salt and oil.
