I have a cast iron skillet that had candle wax in it. How do I remove the odor?
I've put it in the dishwasher & boiled water in it but the scented odor still remains. I'd like to use it for cooking but am afraid residual wax may get into the food. Is it possible to use it for food?
You might need to completely burn it off. I had to do this to get curry out of mine (every thing I cooked tasted and smelled like curry). You can put it in your oven at 500 for a long time but that stinks. the best way is to put it directly into a fire and leave it to burn off - did this on my outdoor grill. You will need to re-season the pan when you are done.
